Is This Really MoneyTap? How to Verify a Genuine Call, SMS or WhatsApp Message
The phone rings. The person on the other end says they’re from MoneyTap — about your loan, a “verification”, or a “special offer”. But is it really MoneyTap?
The question matters, because scammers know that millions of Pakistanis trust MoneyTap, and they exploit exactly that trust — using the MoneyTap name to push people into sharing an OTP, paying a “fee”, or transferring money to a personal account. The good news: you can separate the genuine from the fake in seconds.
Step 1: Verify the number — in two minutes
MoneyTap publishes every official number in one place: the Support Center. Search the number that contacted you there.
- If the number isn’t on the list — don’t trust it, whatever it claims.
- MoneyTap’s official customer service channel is WhatsApp on +92 314 9425424 — the account named “MoneyTap CS” carrying the blue verified badge (Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM PKT). The official email is support@moneytappk.com. Anyone can copy our name and profile photo on WhatsApp; nobody can copy the blue badge.
- Remember: even a listed number is only safe if it isn’t asking you for an OTP or a transfer to a personal account (see below).
Step 2: What MoneyTap will never ask for
Memorise this and most fraud falls apart on its own. MoneyTap will never:
- Ask for your OTP, PIN or password — by call, message or any other way. The OTP is the master key to your account; anyone who asks for it is a scammer.
- Ask for an advance “processing fee”, “tax” or upfront payment before disbursing a loan. Once approved, the money comes straight to your account.
- Ask you to send money to a personal JazzCash or EasyPaisa number. Repayment always happens inside the app.
- Threaten you or your family. A licensed, regulated lender communicates lawfully.
- They ask for an OTP, PIN or password.
- They ask for a fee before the loan — any upfront payment is fraud.
- They rush you — “act now or you’ll lose the offer”. Pressure is a scammer’s tool.
- They want money in a personal account, not through the app.
- The number isn’t on the Support Center list.
If you’ve already been caught
Don’t panic — move fast:
- If you’ve sent money, call your bank or wallet (JazzCash / EasyPaisa) immediately and flag the transfer as suspicious.
- Change your MoneyTap password, and notify support through the official in-app channel.
- Report to the FIA Cybercrime Wing at fia.gov.pk.
- Warn the people close to you so they stay alert too.
